Organic Agriculture at EARTH Campus

"Experience practical strategies for eco-friendly production systems"

The Integrated Organic Farm combines the initiatives of professors and students interested in investigating and promoting organic agriculture strategies for the tropics. Participating in the Integrated Organic Farm will allow you to learn alternative production technologies that are functional and sustainable. As you work with fellow students and field workers you will learn to make and use natural additives for the production of crops and animals.

With the help of your supervisor you will initially develop a plan of action to be carried out during the internship. Field work will be complemented by readings, reflection and discussions to enrich the understanding of the problems at hand.

Activities you will work on include:

  • Manufacture and application of various organic fertilizers
  • Organic production of pigs
  • Organic strategies for the control of plant diseases and weeds
  • Daily management of Mandalla and Bio-intensive production systems
  • Landscaping with crops
  • Recycling waste products

At the end of your experience you will have a working knowledge of integrated crops, alternative production systems, EM-Efficient Microorganism (microbial enzyme additives), biological pest control, natural fertilizers and biogas.
