This 2-week intensive short course will open your mind to a myriad of strategies for reversing the decline of our planet, in ways that will allow you to embrace a responsible lifestyle and become part of the solution. You will discover practices that are not only theoretically desirable, but economically and environmentally sustainable. Located in the tropics, the principles and practices can become a lifestyle that can embrace future generations without guilt, knowing that you did not deprive or destroy the resources they need for a healthy and prosperous life.
EARTH University and Rancho Margot have combined their unique resources to provide an opportunity to experience cutting edge strategies to deal with the exploitation and destruction of our natural resources. You will experience two very different environments: one on a humid Caribbean region university campus surrounded by lush tropical forests, and the other on a small integrated farm in the region of the Volcano Arenal near the lake of the same name. Both utilize their resources to demonstrate viable methods of environmental rejuvenation and enhancement.
During the week at EARTH you will be exposed to research and the application of lessons learned both on campus and in neighboring communities. You will become familiar with strategies for dealing with waste, reducing and eliminating chemical contaminants, collecting and utilizing microbial additives, and integrating all production aspects of livestock production into a bio-friendly enterprise. Mandalla, biodynamic, free range, vermiculture, bio-fertilizers and repellants, EM and bokashi will become part of your vocabulary.
During your second week you will become part of a small farming enterprise dependent on the success of these initiatives to remain economically viable and environmentally sustainable.
You will be a participant, not a spectator, of these initiatives and will have the opportunity to analyze and apply your own experience to current needs within the pragmatic constraints of sustainability. By the end of this experience you will be inspired and equipped with strategies to address the degradation of your environment.
